Tips on Relocating With Your Family

Why do people move? In general, there are three primary motivations: for work, a change in family circumstances or a significant other. Regardless of the reason, relocating your family - whether a few blocks over, across the country or overseas- can be an intimidating process.

Here are some tips to make moving with your family as smooth as possible:

1. Research

Being well informed will give you a few advantages, amongst them will be feeling a sense of peace.

Do your research on things like school districts and get an idea of where facilities such as hospitals and police stations are located. Which neighbourhoods are the best for families, and how do they rank on affordability? Pay close attention to the cost of living and median family income as these are important indicators. If you are relocating to a new country, make sure to research the history of your new home and how its government currently operates; read up on its social norms and rules of etiquette.

2. Something for everyone

Relocating for a better school district for your children is not an uncommon reason to move. RE/MAX has a feature that lets users view properties within a school’s catchment area or match schools to a specific residential address. Attending a highly ranked school can mean better teachers, smaller class sizes, better materials, better field trips, more funding for extracurricular activities and, in most cases, a higher rate of high school graduates moving on to college.

While all these are great reasons to move, make sure that your new home is right for you as well.

3. Are you ready?

Before you can start packing up your belongings, we urge you to organize the following steps:

A hassle-free move is largely a matter of remembering the details, and dealing with utilities well in advance of moving day can help ensure anyone’s peace of mind.

Use Mail Forwarding when you move or temporarily relocate to a new address. You can forward your personal or business mail from your Canadian address to anywhere in the world.

Do you have the proper packing materials at hand? That means ample boxes and plastic wrap. Don’t worry contact your King’s relocation expert and we can help you sort packing material out.
