It's no secret that moving can be one of the biggest tasks and stressors one can go through, but there are ways to make things easier on yourself and your family.
Let's get you ready and organized to make it through this process with minimal tears and come out on the other side ready to enjoy your new home.
Here are 7 tips to help you avoid moving day chaos.
Moving is a great opportunity to declutter, purge and downsize. Are there boxes in your home that haven't been opened since the last time you moved? Items in your closet that you haven't work for years? Don't get sentimental about your items, if you don't need them and are not using them, then this is the time to toss it, donate it or sell it.
2. Communicate with your movers
Your might have moved before or this could be your first time, either way asking key questions and communicating relevant information is always beneficial. Informing your moving company about any overweight items (i.e. a piano or fridge), access restrictions (small elevator, walk-up only, narrow driveway) and whether you’ll need help with disassembly or assembly of furniture will make your move go a lot smoother.
3. Organize - the packing kit
If you decide to pack your home yourself, we suggest putting together a packing kit and reading up on our packing tips. Have your boxes ready, black markers to label the boxes, packing tape, newspapers and such.
4. Pack items you use least first
When you’re packing for a move, you'll want to box up the items you use the least, and then gradually work your way up to things you use weekly or daily. This allows you to get your packing started early without feeling like you’re missing any necessities in the meantime.
5. Use wardrobe boxes
Re-hanging, all of your packed clothes, can be challenging and tedious. Using wardrobe boxes to pack your closets will make your life a lot easier.
